Mozart and Schubert Lead Classic FM Playlist

Classic FM offered a balanced programme on 7 October 2026, broadcasting 128 pieces that ranged from Renaissance choral work to modern film themes. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart led the day with seven selections, including movements from his Clarinet Concerto and multiple piano concertos. Franz Schubert followed with four entries, while George Frideric Handel, Camille Saint-Saens, and Joseph Haydn were each featured three times.

The schedule moved easily between familiar orchestral cornerstones and lyrical favourites. Early morning listeners heard Handel’s ‘Ombra mai fu’, George Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow, and Alexis Ffrench’s contemporary piano piece Bluebird. Choral works punctuated the schedule throughout, from Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine to Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere. Popular stage and screen scores provided regular contrast, including music by John Barry, Max Steiner, and Ennio Morricone.

The running order showed a clear pattern, using mid-tempo movements and vocal pieces to create a steady daytime atmosphere before leaning into reflective works as the night closed. The day concluded with Allegri’s Miserere, followed by Tara’s Theme from Gone with the Wind and the slow movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.27 in B-flat major.
