I started cycling into work around almost two years ago now, after a friend found me a cheap but good quality bike online. I was looking, having flirted with the city cycle scheme for the previous few months.
Owning my own bike converted me completely into a bit of an obsessive. I have a relatively short commute, but I found myself just feeling great in the morning, and great when I got home. I had loads of energy, and rather than bum out at the TV, I’d end up tinkering with my bike for hours.
I’ve never really been one for sport, and I don’t like competition, and competition is optional in cycling, so it’s an incredible way to become physically healthy. I’ve never had muscles before, but now I have accidental cyclists legs. It’s great.
It has also opened up the city for me – no longer am I a slave to the bus and train routine, but I can experience the city how I want to experience it, where I want to experience, when I want to experience. It’s made me like the city I live in.
Essentially, cycling has brought a health and an enjoyment to my life that was previously absent. It’s made me more confident and comfortable in my own skin, as well.
