It has been reaffirmed that Bradley Wiggins is concentrating on his training for Paris-Roubaix and the hour record before he returns to the track in 2015.
For now, the world time trial champion is competing at the track World Cup in London this weekend in order to focus on training with Team Sky for his final races. He has made no effort to hide his wish to win the Paris-Roubaix in 2015.
It was confirmed by the British Cycling that Sir Bradley Wiggins has not trained since the Commonwealth games with the British track team, and is prioritizing to prepare for the Hell of the North coming April and his Hour record attempt thereafter.
While speaking at the Tour of Britain, Wiggins himself had informed that the London World Cup was a target, but he has been training in Northern France, rather than travelling to the Lee Valley Velodrome.
This 2012 Tour de France winner’s persistent absenteeism from the track is likely to rule him out of contention for selection for the World Championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to the Great Britain’s squad in February. Despite the fact that he does not have to score qualification points in order to ride, it is fairly unlikely that he will join the team pursuit squad at such short notice.
BC’s technical director Shane Sutton said the whole team’s aim was to acquire Olympic qualification points for the London meet, but Wiggins seems satisfied to wait until next winter to start building his tally ahead of Rio 2016.
