Three stage cycling race arranged by Amaury’s Sports Organization will be held in Yorkshire during the timespan of 1-3 May 2015 , after getting confirmation on next year’s UCI calendar.
Co-organizer of this cycling event “The Tour of Yorkshire” will be the official tourism agency of traditional county of Yorkshire “Welcome to Yorkshire”, considering the fact that they successfully arranged Grand Depart of the 2014 Tour de France.
The event has been just recently confirmed by the global cycling union UCI, even though the race was announced back in July before the start of Tour de France. UCI also confirmed that this event will achieve 2.1 ranking which is currently given to events like Tour of Algarve and the Tours of the Mediterranean. Before raising in 2014, the Tour of Britain also had this same ranking.
Even though confirmations are still needed to get complete details of all the events included in Tour of Yorkshire, it is being reported that apart from the Men’s event, the event will also feature a women’s event as well as a long-distance mass participation cycling event.
Gary Verity, the chief executive of tourism agency “Welcome to Yorkshire” was reported saying that this event will mark the start of a world-class event in his county and he also wished to see this trend growing over coming years to make Yorkshire known worldwide.
He was also noted saying that Yorkshire have huge interest globally due to its successful staging of Grand Depart of Tour de France in Yorkshire and it has captured the interest of people from all around the globe. He added that Tour de Yorkshire will be a fitting legacy for the successful Yorkshire’s Grand Depart. He also seemed confident that Welcome to Yorkshire will deliver something special on the coming event of Tour de Yorkshire.
