Someone has come out of hibernation. Peter Sagan has reappeared after his time off training in Colorado. And it looks like the time off from racing has paid off. Sagan is looking to defend his green jersey at the Tour de France and is quickly showing the world that he will be a force to reckon with. He recently won the third stage at the Tour de Suisse and battled to the very end of stage four against speedy Mark Cavendish. No hard feelings though, the two contenders shook hands while coasting after the finish line. But a message has been made to the rest of the cycling world.
“I feel good and ready to be back in competition. I know how hard and important the next months will be, and that’s why I chose to stay in the US to recharge my batteries.”
But, this wasn’t a vacation. This time off didn’t include long nights on the beach walking with a pink coloured alcoholic beverage, Sagan was training in high altitude.
The Tour de Suisse is a perfect warm-up for the Tour de France and Sagan always does well during this race. And helps him see where he stands against the rest of the pack.
“I always considered the Tour de Suisse as one of the most indicative tests in view of the Tour de France.”
He is passing that test with flying “green” colours.
He isn’t the only person making waves at the Suisse. Sir Bradley Wiggins has stepped out of his cloud of unrelenting controversy and crashed the Suisse party…literally.
Wiggins crashed along the fencing that was lining the road. He was said to be grimacing and in pain. The crash did not intimidate Wiggins, he hopped back on his bike and will keep racing.
