Peter Sagan is a top contender for three colours in this year’s Tour: green, white, and yellow.
He’s already got a target on his back for the green jersey, and his fellow competitors won’t be letting him get any of the jerseys with ease. He acknowledges he hasn’t completely sewn it up yet.
“I know there are other good chances for me and I’ll look for these. Stage 5 on the cobblestones is intriguing, as well as other mixed stages. I want to do well on these days as well as to take points for the green jersey. I’m happy that I took (the maillot vert) today, but I know all too well that the road to Paris is long.”
“I’m sure my contenders (for the green jersey) won’t let me relax. In addition, there are no easy stages at the Tour de France; there’s always a lot of stress in the peloton and dangers due to the competitiveness (within the peloton). As I stated before, to win the green jersey is something I need to build day by day.”
Unfortunately for his nearest competitors, his points are amassing quite quickly. He currently stands 22 points ahead of Bryan Coquard for green, as well as 24 points ahead of Marcel Kittel, the winner of stage one.
Mark Cavendish was once a serious contender, but a shoulder dislocation in stage one has knocked him out of the Tour entirely.
Sagan is currently 2 seconds behind race lead Vincenzo Nibali. If he continues, Sagan stands a decent chance of taking yellow, as well.
