….ask for directions. Two schoolboys received the thrill of their life when a lone cyclist asked them for directions. The cyclist needed help due to faulty GPS navigation in Middleham, North Yorkshire. After the schoolboys gave the man the information he needed to find the correct road for the first stage of The Tour de France, they then realized they were talking to a man who had won 25 tour stages. Oh, to be a schoolboy again.
The cycling ace later tweeted his 800,000 followers about his trek through the Dales.
“Couple of days done looking at the 1st 2 stages of @letouryorkshire @letour & I’m tired! Beautiful, but very hard start to a 3 week race.”
The first stage of Le Tour is important to Cavendish due to the fact that one ends with a finish in the hometown of his mother (Harrogate). Hopefully, she will meet him at the end with a brand spankin’ new GPS to prevent any other unforeseen mechanical hiccups. Mark Cavendish is extremely confident about his chances in Harrogate because he told the schoolboys that stage one would be his.
The schoolboys were not the only people Cavendish impressed.
“He had a wonderful time, he was very impressed with the route and the enthusiasm of everyone he met,” said Gary Verity, the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire.
He continued, “It gives the whole team a huge boost to know someone like Mark is so enthusiastic and so determined. He said everyone in cycling is talking about the Tour and how special it will be.”
The British cycling ace will continue his training for the big dance. The Tour de France will showcase the top cyclists in the world racing for the green, yellow, white, and polka dot jerseys. The world will be watching.
