The prolific German rider, Marcel Kittel insisted that he was not unbeatable in sprint finishes despite winning his third victory in four stages of the Tour de France. Facing stiff competition from Alexander Kristoff, he crossed his rival only in the final stages of the race. With the sixth and seventh stages being flat ones, he could have five stage victories by the end of the first week of the race. He admitted he was stretched and exhausted during the fourth stage as the peloton set a scorching pace in the final part of the stage. Staying with the team, while driving so fast, was hard. He acknowledged the influence of Kristoff in pushing him even further and pointed out that he was not unbeatable.
The Frenchman, Thomas Voeckler, also enjoyed his ride. Being accused of purposely crashing his bike on that of Kristoff’s, Mark Cavendish decided not to take legal action against Kristoff. Kristoff even compared Cavendish’s behaviour with that of Luis Suarez, notorious for biting people. Kristoff defended his accusations, saying that he expected more from a big rider as Cavendish. However, he hoped that Cavendish would recover quickly.
