Belkin rider Jos Van Emden took a break from his time trial on stage 19 of the Giro d’Italia tournament, did he need a wee? Nah, he wanted to propose to his long-time girlfriend.
Social media was as lively as a bed full of bugs when the news spreads online. Tweets were rampant and fans and supporters alike were ecstatic when they heard the news. Team Belkin couldn’t hide their happiness for their teammate (it was they who confirmed the proposal and Kimberly’s answer, which was YES!)
In the 26km race, the Dutchman couldn’t resist asking his girlfriend the big question. After the proposal, he hurriedly got back to the race.
Over the 3 hour race, he was in the 106th place next to Colombia’s leader Nairo Quintana in the overall ranking. He first rode in 2009.
However, he was not the first cyclist to propose in the middle of the race, that was probably Johan Vansummeren at the Paris-Roubaix in 2011, first, he won the race, then he proposed to his lady. Classy.
