Beethoven and Grieg Lead September Airwaves

Classic FM presented a broad programme of 142 pieces on 26 September 2026, leaning heavily towards familiar orchestral favourites and romantic melodies. Ludwig van Beethoven was the most frequently heard composer across the 24 hours with six entries, including movements from his Sixth and Seventh Symphonies alongside the Egmont Overture. Edvard Grieg and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were also central to the broadcast, joined by regular appearances from Antonin Dvorak and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Alongside traditional core repertoire, the schedule offered a steady mix of popular film scores and contemporary concert works. Listeners heard screen compositions from John Barry, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, as well as modern reflective pieces by Ludovico Einaudi, Philip Glass, and Alexis Ffrench. Choral highlights provided calm intervals throughout the day, featuring Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine and Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque.

The day began in a reflective mood just after midnight with Franz Liszt’s Liebestraum No.3, followed by movements from Schubert’s Fifth Symphony and Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto. As the broadcast moved towards its conclusion, the late evening featured quiet, contemplative sacred and instrumental selections. The final hour wound down with Domenico Zipoli’s Elevazione and the In Paradisum from Faure’s Requiem, before ending on the Adagio from Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
