Eclectic Grooves and Rhythms on 6 Music

The 6 Music broadcast on 3 October 2026 delivered an expansive 148-track selection, moving seamlessly through ambient soundscapes, vintage funk, indie classics, and energetic club cuts. Early morning listening opened with reflective instrumental and electronic textures, highlighted by Yoofee’s I can see it from here alongside archival field recordings and ambient synth works, before shifting gears towards daytime alternative rock, soul, and pop staples.

Soul, disco, and funk proved particularly prominent across the schedule. The day’s most frequent selections included bassist and producer Marla Kether, who featured three times with tracks including Libera and multiple airings of A Jam In Paranoá, matched by classic disco-funk group Fatback with three tracks including Night Fever and The Joint (You And Me). Jamiroquai and The Brothers Johnson also earned multiple spins, anchoring the mid-to-late hours in bass-heavy dancefloor rhythms.

Notable shifts in pacing defined the day’s progression. The daytime schedule balanced established favourites from The Smiths, Dexys Midnight Runners, and Missy Elliott with contemporary names such as Ezra Collective and JGrrey. As night fell, the tempo rose through Latin grooves, dub, and Afro-house, eventually concluding in a dedicated run of breakbeat, jungle, and bass-driven club remixes from Cool Hand Flex, Hysterics, and El-B.
