It was either Holbrook to see All or None and Things found in Sharks or Khe Sahn Approach and Siamese Sluts. This review should show why I think I made the right choice.
First up were Siamese Sluts, how joined the bill in the last after 1000s of bands pulled out (Dawn parade, shadow project, things found in… everyone basically) but fuck them.
Ex members of Exiles, good-era MBA, Hi-fi sister and Secret Hairdresser, every good band from bury apart from The Khe Sahn and man, they do kick arse! If you want me to compare them to any band, screw it, this is ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL which, well hardly anyone one in Suffolk are doing properly, but if you really must know think spacemen 3 and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
I just wish more bands would rock my face more, doesn’t seem to be happening anymore. One that didn’t rock my face was Soma. For a band who has a guy who looks like He-man that plays bass you’d think you would get something mighty. But you get a band that sounds like they don’t know how they want to sound, so the result is some kind of epic goth rock, which I don’t think they really wanted. Still early days, give this band some time and maybe they found out what they want.
A nightmare if you’re a teenage emo girl just at the steamboat just wanting to look at nice non-threatening boys playing guitars (unless you got ear protection and look at the Richard) but a dream who has taste.
Influenced by The Fall, Big Black, Suicide etc The Khe Sahn make interesting changeling music, which until recently you could only get from The Waxing Captors from around here. Starting with 3 new uns, which are actually poppy and catchy, they fucking slayed tonight, maybe the best they ever played.
Ending with the 15 minute drone of crocodile teargas (with help from a twatted Siamese Sluts) you can sleep easy you made right choice by coming here instead of Holbrook (this review is for Rory porter. Screw you Rory)
