NOTE – It looks like this interview took place twice with two different band members, I can’t remember why that happened!
Traditional first question, who are you and why?
My name is Jim Carroll because my parents thought it had a nice ring to it.
Is it a coincidence that your album has come out pretty much exactly the same time as your bands mates new albums or is it this some sort of bizarre race?
No. It’s all part of a plan to take over music in general as well as the entire world.
How easily did the album come together?
I’m assuming fairly easily. It’s a one piece digi-pack so how hard could it really be to put together?
Were the ideas bubbling away for a long time, and then (no offence, it’s compliment) did it all come rushing out at once in the studio?
Oh they were bubbling for sure. Always.
Did you get everything on that album that you wanted to?
Yes.
Will clouds be a long term prospect?
Yes.
Based on the last track on the album, can we expect to see Cave In go down a more dub route in the future?
I don’t know much about this Cave In act but since Clouds is way ahead of our time we will definitely be influencing many bands and individuals for generations to come.
How did you put clouds together?
With lots of blood, sweat and tears. Not to mention a little sprinkling of pixie dust.
How shite are these questions?
Quite.
what’s next?
This is a tough one. I can see that this is the last question so I know that it’s not one of those. Hmmm…I don’t know. I give up.
Traditional first question, who are you and why?
Adam McGrath…..my mom wanted a name from the good book. The first sinner.
Is it coincidence that your album has come out pretty much exactly the same time as your bands mates new albums or is it this some sort of bizarre race?
No. Its unnatural to us to be lazy and non-productive…..when one entity stops you work and foster another. Less like a “bizarre race” and more like a grudge match.
How easily did the album come together?
Took about two years to create the sounds and songs…..two days to record. The thing that was not easy was figuring out how to sing.
Were the ideas bubbling away for a long time, and then (no offence, it’s compliment) did it all come rushing out at once in the studio?
Hammer it out using all mutated characteristics of ourselves letting the energy and soul ooze out the speakers.
Did you get everything on that album that you wanted to?
Yes….a left of the dial masterpiece.
Will clouds be a long term prospect? Yes.
Based on the last track on the album, can we expect to see Cave In go down a more dub route in the future?
Probably not thought the music of Jah can creep up on you when you least expect it.
How did you put clouds together?
Didnt have anything going on so i knew i needed to get something else rolling. I started working with Jimmy and found that we were like minded in our tastes for culture, disco’s, kabob shops, burrito joints, and beer….so i asked him -”Dude you wanna jam man???”
How shite are these questions?
Pretty shit though i’ve answered worse.
what’s next?
zozobra practice.
