I ‘kin love the cd this band sent me, so much so that I spent a couple of weeks trying to get in touch via phone, email and even MySpace to find out more, here’s what I got…
So as it the law in zineland, who the fuck are you and why?
We’re a band from Swansea who play epic black sabbath sea shanties. As for why? why not.
How hard was it to get the band up and running? Have you had trouble finding rehearsal space or has your rural setting been a blessing in that respect?
No trouble at all. We’ve been jammin since we were in school. We’ve played for years in a community hall on the Gower (which was right by the marsh and estuary). As far as setting goes we have been blessed. We jammed there until someone inevitably complained about noise. We rehearse in a few different places now. None of them are what you would call ‘comfortable’. Generally all the rehearsal rooms are in the city centre so it ain’t that rural at all. A big shed in the middle of Gower would be nice. We can but dream.
What’s the scene like where you are? I’ve heard rumors that stoner rock beats at the heart of the Swansea scene, if that’s true why do you think that is?
There’s loads of great bands in Swansea at the moment. I wouldn’t necessarily say ‘stoner rock’ was at the heart of it. There’s a lot of good heavy bands who are doing it for the love of doing it more than anything else, which is great. There are so many dodgy bands around at the moment. It’s just cool there’s so many bands on the same wavelength here.
How happy are you with the current EP (that we don’t know the name of), is there anything about it you now regret?
Yeah there’s things when we listen back that we would change but that’s always gonna be the case. We only planned on doing 2 songs but one thing led to another and we ended up doing 4. We’d been playing the other songs for a while so it was easy enough to just jam them out.
Do you have any plans to hit the road any time soon?
We’re currently trying to get as many shows as possible for this summer to coincide with our E.P. release in May. The more time we’re playing gigs away in the sun, the better. Easier said than done though.
