About Ipswich Wiki
Ipswich Music Wiki is a long-term project that will attempt to document the people, places and some of the more intangible aspects of original live music in Ipswich.
For this project to work we need your memories – if you remember something about Ipswich music that isn’t listed on this website please get in touch.
Ipswich Wiki Categories
Only bands/artists with original music are listed on Ipswich Music Wiki – if at least 80% of performers’ output (or live performance) is original they can be listed here. Genre is to a certain extent irrelevant, but rough pointers to music type may be found within posts.
Doesn’t matter what the event was; but it must have a live music element and needs to have happened in Ipswich, surrounding villages or Felixstowe.
This section is for information on people who are/were part of the Ipswich music scene. We’re kinda flying a bit close to the sun by having this section, so please keep it legal and don’t say anything we might regret.
Putting on (or significantly contributing to) an event makes someone a promoter. It doesn’t matter if they do it well or do it badly, in fact some of the best shows are the ones when things don’t go according to plan.
This section is for record labels that exist or have existed in Ipswich. The record labels here do not need to have had distribution deals or chart success, they just need to have done ‘something’ – if a record label made more than five of any release then it should be listed on Ipswich Music Wiki.
Needs to be based in Ipswich, but doesn’t need to have exclusively Ipswich artists on the rosta.
Studios and Rehearsal Spaces
For somewhere to be listed as either a studio or rehearsal space it needs to be a facility available for booking by members of the public.
Doesn’t matter if the venue is a pub, theatre, field or car park. If live music happened there then it’s a venue.
A zine is a self-published magazine. More professionally produced magazines are acceptable for this section as long as they are/were focussed on music.
Everything that isn’t something else or doesn’t neatly fit in one of the other categories.
The following bands/people/places/things have been identified as being important to Ipswich. We need more information on them. If you can help then please get in touch.
